Balancing Work & Family
Who knows better about this juggling act than working moms? iVillage recently compiled 40 Mom-Tested Tips for Balancing Work and Family by the members of one of its most popular message boards. Here are some of the best:
To make mornings go more smoothly:
- Pack your children's lunches and backpacks the night before.
- Let children do as much as they can by themselves -- get dressed, brush their hair or pour themselves cereal. This can help them feel independent while also freeing you up to do other things.
To make the most of evenings at home:
- Make kid-friendly meals in advance or cook something quick and easy.
- Factor in fun and time to snuggle.
To stay involved in your child’s school or daycare:
- Stay in touch with your child's teacher or caregiver by phone and email.
- Channel some of your work talents into volunteerism. Help build a Website for your child's daycare center, for example.
To build a positive relationship with your caregiver:
- Drop by as often as you can to say "hello" -- share your ideas, express your interests and volunteer to help.
- Recognize your caregiver's good work. Send a thank-you card or a small gift.
